just let your soooooooooul glo ....how to be the real ms. silky smooth this summer

Image
Summer is in full swing so its time to prepare that summer hair. Curly with a little color is my personal preference for the summer. The heat as in from the sun and from heating tools can be really hard on your hair when its starts to warm up so get a cool new look that you can wet, get  pulled, whatever you like! lol. The number one questions to ask when selecting a curly look is will I end up looking like Sister Patterson 4th pew from the front on the right side of church that's been in that same seat for 20 years, or my personal favoirte comparison, Rick James (R.I.P.) The objective is to look beautiful and free but not like you're trying to make the drip of the jheri curl  return. YIKES! Summer Weave: Hair- Bobbi Boss Indi Remi, Soul Wave (my favorite hair to use for curly weaves, unlike that silky one in the previous blog)  this hair retails at $89.99-$99.99 per pack depending on length, color, etc. I prefer 10 inches for a fuller look. shed so many....ends? (tupac voice)

Have you ever gone to the beautician with your shoulder length natural hair with the sole intention of only getting your ends clipped and walk out with your neck being exposed to an unsuspecting breeze because your hair is now bottom of the ear length. Ahem! Listen up: This may be controversial and some beauticians might read this and think her ol' non-professional self need to shut the hell up but Ladies Ladies Ladies I'm here to let you know its all cosmetic. If its not coming out of the scalp its a dead....DEAD! Now let me explain, does it look good? to have even beautiful hair? of course but let's face it most of us black women have been growing these locks since BURF not BIRTH but BURF...emphasis on the URF! So to part with your length even if its just a few strands that touches your back when you hold your head back in pictures (not that I know lol) its depressing and crushing. Truth be told your hair grows from the follicle the root the scalp so clipping you

go green recycle that weave!

Image
If you would like to contribute to the ecological well being of the universe then there's something you can do. Recycle your weave. Lol I'm almost positive that recycling weaves does not contribute to the greater good of the environment but you'll get a free new do out of it and you'll save some cash. If you've learned 1 thing about me its that I love changing hairstyles. I acutally get slighlty bored with the same old do. And who can't use a little variety or spice in their life? If those tracks are starting to look a  little stale and old then I'm more than sure this one is for you. Is your boo putting in overtime and taking The-Dream's sweat it out a little too literally for your beautician to keep up with this technique is for you... If you're trying to get your J-Hud on and work it out but the sweat and hard work is compromising the texture of your weave...this technique is for you... If you're trying to save some cash and you ha

"cut from a different cloth my texture is the best fur": silky straight or yaky?

Image
Ladies ladies ladies, Why? Why? Why? I feel like the weave police. I have a bone to pick with those ladies that opt out of the full head weave but match yaky like edges with silky straight tracks. Look I'm not a professional nor an expert but isnt the purpose of the weave to accentuate your real hair? Let's break this down: Silky straight is like a play on words if you press your hair and the texture is silky straight then this probably is the hair for you. If you have course thick hair even when straightened then yaky may be a better texture for you. It kills me to see that one piece of untamed hair in the front of the weave and all this silky stuff down a sistah's back. We've got to do better. Lol here are some blending techniques: If your press starts looking a little old but your tracks still look a little fresh: Ingredients: Fine tooth Comb Holding Spray (Vonte is a really good product but can be expensive. Isoplus does the job but can get stick

plague of the black woman: changing styles in corporate america

Image
Is it just me or is there lots of pressure on us Black women changing hair styles in the workplace? If you are the vast minority as in 1 of 3 black women, if that in your company then you can understand the plague. The questions and the stares present a challenge in making a decision to be well received or true to yourself. Have you ever found that you select your hairstyle based on your work environment. If I wanted to rock a natural fro would I be less likely to get new assignments or be allowed to have client interaction? When intervieiwng am I more inclined to get the position because my hair was straight rather than curly? I feel like we have been plagued, we as in black women, to conform to be true to our goals which may actually undermine our efforts to remain true to ourselves. A decision has to be made, but I truly feel that we are perceived and judged by our looks because unless you are doing over the phone interviews and working from home you have to be seen before yo

who run the world? Curls!

so my birthday is coming up and its a known fact that I have hair for every occassion. I remember my bestfiriend calling me on like christmas eve and was like "girl are you putting in your christmas hair?" lol. so this is my birthday hair. I'm excited to see if it will survive an r kelly concert a day trip to catalina and a road trip to vegas.... I call this my budget hair. I don't like to spend lots of money on my hair if I know its going to go through war and I change my hair often because I like different looks. So this is my budget hair: I paid 19.99 per pack. Brand: Que by Milky Way Style: Dio Curl Length: 16" I mixed 3 packs: 1B, 30, and 2 I like full hair so I only left the top of my hair out. Since my edges are thin I like to go across when inserting the tracks (this is if you are attempting to do yourself lol). I would do cornrows going back rather than a beehive to get a fuller look (that's if you also have to braid your own hair). I jus

Track 1: Introduction

Hey Ladies and Gents if you're hairy, I've deemed myself as a hair connoiseur  and thought it would be fun to blog about my hair adventures. I've tried many styles even wigs. I've been wearing weaves for years now. It all started at the tender age of 13 my hair was thicker than expired molasses and a press just wouldnt hold. So my mother thought I should get a perm. It was my first perm on my virgin hair. When it was "broken down" and ready to be rinsed out the water was cut off and the beautician wiped the perm out of one side of my hair with a paper towel before the water was cut back on. I suffered nerve damage as in one side of my hair will grow and break off I've tried all kinds of products. My hair just hasnt been the same since. Its very thin but wigs really helped grow it back out because I wasnt bothering it under the cap but that's a different story... So I just feel more secure with a weave. I love thick full hair and unfortunately its
