Papa Scoob - Taking the Game into Overtime

Image
Its Overtime is The Official Mixtape release from Papa Scoob presented by the Outerspace Musik Group. Papa Scoob is an East Oakland Native/ Berkley raised lyricist, that has been gracing the music scene with his impeccable lyricism for the past ten years. The Its Overtime mixtape is filled with dynamic flows and metaphors over some of the top 100 billboard tracks with the incorporation of some interludes that capture the most pivotal overtime moments in recent sports history, symbolically signifying Scoob's resilience to the sport of the music grind and shaping his own game as an artist. I've known Scoob since he began rapping and I enjoy listening to him grow as an artist. He definitely doesn't need a hype man because he gets the momentum going with his energetic intensity over each and every track.  Despite his longevity I feel like this mixtape is his coming of age moment. I'm so very proud of his accomplishments and urge you to download Its Overtime now ht

The Album of Anthems: Hear comes Ciara!

Image
Its Ciara-eve. Ciara's 5th studio album entitled Ciara drops tomorrow and you can hear her coming in each and every track. As a day one Ciara fan and supporting every single one of her albums I'm excited to see her evolve as an artist. Her previous albums didn't meet with much commercial success but after 10 years in the music industry it seems as if she's taken some notes on what really works for her as an artist including choosing which producers to work with, and finally found the formula to produce which may be the best album of her musical career. I love her level of confidence in her lyrics on this album. If you've ever seen Ciara in interviews she's always extremely humble and giggly, the exact opposite of who she is when she performs and what she exudes on this album in songs like Keep On Looking: "I'm on another level/you should come and get like me/can't no one do it better/is that so hard to believe". Something about this a

The Street Credit Collection by Kat Kreations

Image
Hey HairyKats, I'm happy to announce that Kat Kreations has officially launched its Street Credit Line which is a collection of apparel with powerful statements that are uplifting, trendy, and fun. The notion behind Street Credit is redefining what it means to be "macho" or "bad". Generally speaking the most respected and idolized people in the hood are those that put in the most work, the biggest drug kingpin, the female with the hottest body, but what about the people that make it out of the hood and out of those circumstances to afford themselves better lives? That's Street Credit to me. I wanted to do away with the notion that to see the ability and necessity to redefine our environment and circumstances makes us "sell outs" or oblivious to our roots. Street credit is the celebration of the people that go against the perpetual recycling of minorities into a system of generational curses of oppression and poverty. Street Credit is no

My BET Experience: A Recap of what I wish BET represented 100% of the time!

Image
This past weekend I attended the BET Experience Fan Fest with one of my dear friends. I didn't want  my experience to be that of a crazed fan spectator gawking over celebrities but more so learning about the mindsets and the people in the space that I myself want to exist in. I arrived around new downtown in the LA Live, Nokia, Staples area and the scene was just chaotic as downtown usually is. I wondered through some areas that I wasn't supposed to have access to in my typical Katrina's always lost fashion. No one stopped me so I continued to roam. I checked-in and got my accessibility badges, met up with my friend, and began the day. We made our way to the first seminar of the day and got distracted by lavish candy bar in the lobby area. Willie Wonka didn't have anything on BET lol! After gawking over the snacks we entered a room of few folks honed in on that of Nicole Ari Parker, Boris Kodjoe, Mara Akil and Salim Akil. The title of the seminar was Couples Unc

Wrapping up Black Music Month

Image
June was an epic month for music with the release of some of summer's most anticipated albums. Here's the run down: To begin music month (kind of but not really) The-Dream released his fourth studio album IV play on May 28th I'm a huge Dream fan so this album was highly anticipated for me especially after his proclaim to retiring from music. I think it's a good solid album but not necessarily his best work. He gave us something different with heavy featurings such as Big Sean, Pusha T, Jay-Z, Beyonce, and Fabolous what he didn't have as much on this album was his typical song transitions that start with one production sequence and ends with another... Hmmm maybe he felt like JT stole his style on this one and let it ride. There is some evidence of his signature sound on songs Ike Equestrian. He remained true to the heavy 808 beats and bump grind r Kelly influences by the album title alone and on songs like the title track IV Play. I
