just me and mr. jones and life is good!
Nas ( Nasty Nas, Nas Esobar, Nasir Jones) released his 10th studio album this week titled Life is Good.
This album is absolutely timeless. It seems like the after the coming of age story. There's an element of comfort in Nas's talented ability in giving us a rhythmic flow over classic beats. Listening to the entire album, there's an underlying confidence that speaks, I've been here before and I aint going anywhere!
I particularly enjoy how although he's been in this industry for 20 years, although the sound of hip/hop, rap music, is transcending to appeal to the club or the pop world, Nas didn't attempt to be like that older gentlemen in the club that wears the oversized clothes and flashy jewelry to show that he's still got it, or he's still down, that seems so out of place, instead Nas is letting us know that his longevity is dependent on him maintaining the core of his truth as an artist and that lies in his lyrics, not in a metaphor punch line type of way. Nas has always been a storyteller.Even when shit talking, its a story, it makes you want to listen, it draws you in. His delivery is impeccable His voice sounds just as energetic and enthusastic as Illmatic.
If I had to use one word to sum up Life is Good, I would say Time-Capsule (it's one word with the dash, lol) While collaborating with some popular names of today: Mary J Blige, Rick Ross, Miguel, Swizz Beatz, the late Amy Winehouse, and Anthony Hamilton to name a few, the sound takes you back to Queensbridge circa 1994. Nas has definetly graced us with another classic.
It was actually hard to pick a favorite song from the album.
