hairykat quick pick # 3: I FOUND A NEW HAIR BRAND

Image
I don't know about you all but I'm on a budget so I always look for good quality hair for a reasonable price. Its true that the number of times I buy hair I could probably invest in some really good indian tracks but since I switch my style up so often I need something affordable that will last for 2-3 weeks. I found a new hair called Starwest. It only came in 18" and 1B which actually looks like a 1 but hey at $39.99 per pack I couldnt pass it by. I'm sure the supply store I go to probably sold it at a low price because they didnt realize that its some quality hair. Its doing its job so far. The pack says Tangle free...but don't they all? lol Ask your local store if they carry Starwest hair! So far so good! I even took a nap on it without wrapping it and it was still in place when I woke up. (we all know I DO NOT sleep pretty) I'm loving it! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOO! ------->starwest hair

Pat your weave ladies, then gon dust your shoulders off???

Image
That jigga, so supportive...once we're done patting our weaves as Bey instructs, hov gives us permission to dust our shoulders off? But if your shoulders are starting to look like an El Nino weather system gone bad chances are your scalp needs some treatment. Even though the hair grows from the shaft; healthy shafting and hair follicles promote healthy scalp and ultimately healthy hair.   Lets go back to the basics...hair is similar to a plant and how do  plants grow?? through nourished and cared for ROOTS! the more the root is cared for the better the plant looks, correct? Ok...now that we're on the same page let's try and figure out some causes and elixirs to why your shoulders look like someone finished a bag of Lays and wiped the crumbs on your shoulder....lol Generally speaking those with coarser hair tend to not wash our hair everyday. Rule of thumb is once every week or week and a half depending on how often you sweat, the climate you live in, and of cours...

bad hair days are for the birds?

Image
Is it just me or is there a certain point in time when your hair does nothing you tell it to do. I mean absolutely nothing....Yikes. Well here's some remedy's to make bad hair days for the birds (in non-slang that means do away with bad hair days...lol!) Has your do lost its body and soul? as in Laying dead and flat? I call this technique, THE FEATHER Whip out the large curls curling iron. Part your hair by layer as in from bottom to top Curl small sections of your hair opposite from your face (like you're doing a flip) After hair is curled apply some spritz Get a weave brush and curl gently through the curls creating a feather look like below: Results: THE FEATHER Hair looking frizzy and untamed. I call this look the CRUSH VELVET cause its so smooth lol... This one is simple. All you'll need is a weave brush, two hands,/or wide tooth comb and some spritz... Be careful as to not "rough up" your hair. If you followed my "clear polish on t...

hairykat quick tip #1 ...POLISH THOSE TRACKS

Image
do you buy "affordable" hair that sometimes sheds and tangles??? well here's a quick fix for you.... before applying your tracks paint the tracks with clear nailpolish YES NAIL POLISH! this should do the trick in keeping your mane free of the weave brush for a while! who said polish was just for nails? reserves platted jewelry , running stockings, and now WEAVES :) this has been a hairykat quick tip  sponsored by http://www.katrinafranklinwrites.com/ enjoy!

dye, die, DEAD,... pour out a little liquor for those fallen follicles... YIKES

Image
do you ever wonder why hair dye is called dye and not live? lol or better yet as a child (or adult depending on your forte') have you ever stepped on those crunchy leaves and noticed that the color of the leaf was a lot lighter than the living ones... hmmm is the analogy making sense yet? ok...what do you call a black character in the first 15 minutes of a scary movie? DEAD! is it sinking in yet yea, yea? LOL Dye, Die, Dead: the biggest way to stop your natural hair from growing is bleaching and or dying it. I'm pretty sure the word dye doesnt actually mean die....better yet let's take a brief view at the definition: def: dye- A substance used to color materials... Not so bad right. Its just a word but when you dye your hair if you don't take care of it properly I will bet my son's two dollar bill collection that your hair will in fact DIE!. Most people go lighter over the summer which can be a very poor decision since hair is being dried out b...
