HairyKat Picks: The 2013 List-9 Lives Reviving Hip-Hop

Image
Last year I dropped my list of artist that I believed to be the Kats (because this is the HairyKat Chronicles, and Kats have nine lives...duh, lol) that signified that we hadn't closed the casket on hip-hop just yet.  See link to last year's list: (  http://hairykat.blogspot.com/2012/05/kats-have-nine-lives-reviving-hip-hop.html  )   It's only appropriate that within the week that the hip-hop world is going crazy over Kendrick Lamar's verse featured on Big Sean's -Control that I provide my 2013 list of artist that I see as innovative yet understand the historical work ethic and artistry that is hip-hop and music in general and are in fact keeping hip-hop alive. 1. Kool Head - Kool Head consists of duo Jason Nitti and Brandon Lee hailing from New York and Atlanta. At first listen I was just excited, I actually drooled when I listened to their single Trans AM. Their sound is so refreshing and representative of the transition of the hip-hop culture that is

The HBCU Alliance-HBCU Reunion Recap

Image
Hey HairyKat's Kat Kreations had the pleasure of vending at an event hosted by the California HBCU Alliance (like their facebook page: ( https://www.facebook.com/calihbcualliance ) called the HBCU Reunion on July 27th. I loved the concept of the event of getting HBCU Alumni and new recruits to network and enjoy themselves. I particularly enjoy seeing people of color gather and come together in positive aspects. It was exciting to see the turn-out  with the event being hosted in Los Angeles (Altadena, to be exact) outside the typical regions and realms of the HBCU environment I participated as a vendor and got to meet many interesting people. This is my first time in the history of Kat Kreations representing all three elements of my company selling my accessories, books, and apparel (shameless plugs: www.katkreate.com , shop.katkreate.com , www.katkreations.spreadshirt.com ) It was a big deal for me to collectively represent all that I am and all that my company is. wait! let me explain: why I still buy pack hair and the mathematics of bundle to pack conversion

Image
This is a hair blog ya know! lol. So as the title suggests I still rock my pack hair but its not what you think. I found the perfect mix between premium quality hair and hair that comes in a pack which is usually cheaper and doesn't last as long. Pack hair in this day and age of the weave universe is a no-no. But before all these premium weaves became popular amongst common folk, no one bothered to explain the conversion between pack hair and bundles. (nerd I know). With pack hair I can say oh...let me get two packs and I know I'll have enough hair to create the volume that I love, but noooooo bundles come in ounces and well when it comes to trying to figure out how much I need "AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT" I have recently learned how to convert between the two: (ahem) So the average weight of hair in a pack is 3.5 oz and 1 bundle of hair is typically 4 oz. Therefore if I typically buy 2 packs of hair 2 bundles/8 oz. would be more than enough hair.
